Motion Graphics/Timebased narrative

The course is basic introduction into motion graphics. Students get a short training in video capturing, editing of video- and audio-material, post-production techniques and video formats. This course is designed for viskom students with good graphic and typographic-skills, but students from a different background are highly welcomed to join the course as well. Due to the technical situation (number of computers) the course must be limited to a restricted number of students. Please get in touch with teacher in advance.

The goal of the course is to introduce students to the different disciplines in the professional area of motion graphics, such as film trailers, title sequences, music videos and issues of broadcast design. Additionally each student is supposed to elaborate an individual project connected to a given assignment. At the end of the course period all results will be collected and published on a DVD. All projects have to be created on a self-responsible basis.

The assignment for the course is given in the beginning of the course period. Alongside the introductory period that comprises screenings, theoretical lectures on basic filming knowledge (perspectives, camera axis and editing rules) and technical introductions in a workshop format, students have to elaborate a treatment, mood-chart and storyboard according to their chosen project.
