This course unit is a follow-up of the type design workshop by Andrea Tinnes in week 50-51. Both course units are designed for students from Visual Communication with good graphic and typographic skills. The type design unit covers the design of letterforms (ideally a the design of whole alphabets) and the motion design unit the animation of type. This sequence of two course units seeks to explore the relation of type, image, sound and motion. The goal of the two courses is to provide students with a basic knowledge of type design, time based typography, animation and motion graphics. The motion design unit starts off with a hands-on introduction into relevant techniques, such as video- and sound capturing, editing and post-production techniques. The assignment of this course unit is to re-design a title sequences for an existing movie (of personal choice) using the earlier, during the type design workshop, developed type face.
